What is an electrostimulator?

Electrostimulators are small electrical machines that are attached to the skin using electrodes. This device produces electrical stimulants that strengthen the muscles to tighten them. Electrostimulators have different settings, representing contractions that may be faintly detectable or may feel and appear like automatic muscle spasms. You can buy electrostimulators from Compex, Globus and Rehab Medic.

Purpose of electrostimulation

The basic objective of electrostimulation treatment is to simulate what happens in the body when you voluntarily contract and discharge a muscle several times in one session. Electrostimulation supports and improves tissue, specifically muscles that have become compressed, damaged or weakened due to injury or disease.
Athletes can also use electrostimulation as a muscle strengthening or healing process. Some research has revealed that electrostimulation can be delivered by contractions in various types of muscle fibers, allowing athletes to treat damaged or weakened muscles for different functions and reactions.

How does electrostimulation work?

Electrostimulation mimics the potential for activity coming from the greater nervous system. The activity potential is what we call it when a neuron sends electrical stimuli with an axon. When these stimulants hit a threshold, the activity potential is released and something happens. In this situation, that something is muscle compaction. Electrostimulation produces constant electro stimulants that favor muscle contractions, many of them in a regular electrostimulation session. This regular contraction and release of the muscle improves blood circulation and then strengthens weakened muscles.
